CBP Extends GBI Proof of Concept

In a Federal Register Notice issued on July 21, 2023, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced an extension its Global Business Identifier (GBI) proof of concept.

Per the notice, CBP originally issued a notice in December of 2022 announcing the “Evaluative Proof of Concept (EPoC)” for GBIs. The GBI EPoC is an “interagency trade transformation project that aims to test an develop a single entity identifier solution for CBP and [Participating Government Agencies] to achieve trade facilitation and trade security…”. Participation in the test is voluntary, and CBP is allowing test participants to provide GBIs for manufacturers, shippers, and sellers on eligible entries.

The notice extends the test period through February 14, 2024.
