On January 21, 2021, in a press release, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced an agreement with the U.K. to formally recognize each other’s authorized economic operator programs. According to CBP, this arrangement will “mitigate risks, improve information sharing, and eliminate red tape for our partners in the trade community.”

The U.S. will grant members of the U.K’s Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) program approval in the Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT), and the U.K. will likewise grant CTPAT members approval as AEOs.
