EU Announces New Trade Agreement with Chile

In a press release published on January 6. 2025, the European Commission announced the EU-Chile Interim Trade Agreement (ITA) will replace the current EU-Chile Association Agreement on February 1, 2025.

Some of the major changes under the new ITA include:

  • 1 movement declarations and invoice declarations that were previously used will no longer be accepted of proof of preferential origin. Preferential origin claims will be based on “statement on origin or importer’s knowledge, as appropriate.”
  • The claims for preferential origin for the products in transit, temporary storage, warehousing or in free zones will be based on statements on origin.
  • The Approved Exporter under the previous Association Agreement are now replaced by the Registered Exporter System (REX) number.
