CBP Updates Type 86 Entry Time Frame

Posted by Timothy Miller on 1/16/24 5:00 PM

In a Federal Register Notice published on January 16, 2024, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced upcoming changes to its Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) Entry Type 86 Test.

The notice modifies the timeline of filing type 86 entries from within 15 days of the arrival of the cargo to the new requirement of filing “upon or prior to arrival”. These changes are being made due to “enforcement challenges surrounding low-value shipments” and the fact that the 15-day timeline has not been consistent with the “expedited process envisioned for the ACE Entry Type 86 Test.”

The published changes will go into effect on February 15, 2024.
