On February 13, 2023, in Cargo Systems Messaging Service (CSMS) #55083113, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) issued guidance on shipments of biological materials. According to the CSMS, CBP “estimates that a large volume of shipments containing biological materials are imported with missing, conflicting, or improper documentation and packaging.” Biological materials include microorganisms, materials derived from a living source, clinical materials, and biological toxins.
