In a Cargo Systems Messaging Service (CSMS) bulletin published on November 1, 2024, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced that customs brokers will be able to earn credits under the new CBP Continuing Education (CE) Program.

Under this program, individually licensed brokers must earn 20 CE credits from “qualifying educational activities” from January 1, 2025, through January 31, 2027.

CBP will offer a variety of credit-eligible activities, such as:

  • Trade-related conferences, seminars, and webinars;
  • Self-administered online courses;
  • Company training (internally developed or provided by an outside vender);
  • Ports tours; and
  • CBP sponsored Trade Days.

Individual brokers who receive their license during this triennial period will not be subject to CE requirements until the start of the next Triennial Status Reporting Period.
