Posted by Timothy Miller on 3/5/25 5:00 PM

In an Executive Order published on March 1, 2025, President Trump announced a Section 232 investigation of timber and lumber imports to “determine whether imports of these products threaten to impair national security.”

This investigation will review timber, lumber, and their derivative products such as paper and furniture.

Within 270 days of this Executive Order, the Secretary of Commerce shall submit a report to the President that will include findings on the current and projected demand for timber and lumber, if domestic production can meet domestic demand, if tariffs or quotas are necessary, and the role of foreign supply chains in meeting demand.
