In an Executive Order (EO) published on September 29, 2025, the White House announced Section 232 tariffs on the import of timber, lumber, furniture, cabinets, and vanities.
With some exceptions listed in the Lumber and Timber Annex, the following rates will apply:
- An ad valorem duty rate of 10% on imports of softwood lumber.
- An ad valorem duty rate of 25% on certain upholstered furniture.
- An ad valorem duty rate of 25% on kitchen cabinets and vanities.
Wood imports from the United Kingdom subject to Section 232 duties will not exceed 10%. For Japan and the European Union, goods subject to the Section 232 wood product tariff and the most-favored nation tariff rates will not exceed 15.
The duties will apply to goods entered for “consumption, or withdrawn from warehouse for consumption, on or after 12:01 a.m. eastern daylight time on October 14, 2025.”
On January 1, 2026, the duty rate for certain upholstered wooden products will increase to 30%, and the rate for kitchen cabinets and vanities will increase to 50%.
