White House Announces New Steel Tariffs

Posted by Timothy Miller on 2/11/25 5:00 PM

In an Executive Order published on February 10, 2025, President Trump announced new tariffs on imported steel and the removal of current exclusions on steel imports.

These tariffs will apply to steel and steel derivatives from Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, the United Kingdom, Ukraine and the European Union by ending product exclusions, quota agreements, and Section 232 exemptions.

These new tariffs can be avoided if the products are processed from steel melted and poured in the United States on the condition the importer can provide U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) with additional data to confirm its origin.

This Executive Order also outlines a process for producers or trade associations to request the addition of specific products to the steel derivatives list and be subject to these tariffs.

The steel tariffs will go into effect and the general product exclusions will end on March 12, 2025.
