In a press release published on December 23, 2024, the office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) announced the initiation of a Section 301 investigation “regarding China’s acts, policies, and practices related to targeting of the semiconductor industry for dominance.”

This investigation will focus on legacy semiconductors manufacturing and how they are incorporated into certain industries such as aerospace, automotive, medical and telecommunications.

In addition, the investigation will assess the impact of China’s acts, policies and production of silicon carbide substrates and how it “contributes to any unreasonableness or discrimination or burden or restriction on U.S. commerce.”

A comment period will be open for this investigation from January 6, 2025, to February 5, 2025.
