In a Federal Register Notice (FRN) published on December 10, 2024, the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) announced the initiation of a Section 301 investigation on Nicaragua’s “acts, policies, and practices related to labor rights, human rights, and the rule of law.”

This investigation is reviewing potential “repressive acts that harm Nicaragua’s own workers and people, undermine fair competition, and destabilize our region.” Additionally, the USTR is investigating the impact that these acts, polices and practices may have on U.S. workers and companies.

Written comments are being accepted until January 8, 2025.

The Section 301 Committee will have a public hearing on January 16, 2025.
