USTR Announces No Section 301 Investigation into Mexico’s Seasonal Produce Industry

On October 23, 2022, in a press release, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) announced that it is not opening a Section 301 investigation into Mexico’s seasonal produce industry. The decision was made in response to a petition filed against an “’export targeting’ scheme aimed at Florida produce.” USTR is creating an advisory panel and will work with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to review the issues in the petition and “to consider any further actions that may be appropriate.” A Federal Register Notice will be published outlining USTR’s petition response.
