On October 1, 2021, in a press release, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) announced an agreement with Vietnam addressing concerns from the Timber Section 301 investigation. According to the press release, “The Agreement secures commitments that will help keep illegally harvested or traded timber out of the supply chain and protect the environment and natural resources.” Vietnam committed to improving its Timber Legality Assurance System as well as keeping confiscated timber out of the supply chain and verifying timber regardless of its export destination.
