U.S. and UK Issue Joint Statement on Future of Atlantic Trade

On March 22, 2022, in a joint statement, the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) Katherine Tai and United Kingdom (UK) Secretary of State for International Trade Anne-Marie Trevelyan issued a joint statement on the first U.S./UK Dialogues on the Future of Atlantic Trade. The stated goal of the Dialogues is to “advance mutual international trade priorities rooted in our shared values, while promoting innovation and inclusive economic growth for workers and businesses on both sides of the Atlantic.” The first Dialogue resulted in commitments on a variety of topics including:

  • Labor rights and forced labor;
  • “Third party market-distorting practices;” and
  • The digitization of paper-based customs requirements.
