Tariffs to be Implemented on Copper Imports

Posted by Timothy Miller on 7/31/25 5:00 PM

In an Executive Order (EO) published on July 30, 2025, the White House announced a 50% tariff on imports of “semi-finished copper products and intensive copper derivative products.”

For copper derivative products, only the copper content of the goods will be subject to the 50% tariff. The remaining value of the goods would be subject to other duties such as reciprocal, fentanyl, or International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) tariffs.

This 50% tariff will go into effect on goods that are “entered for consumption, or withdrawn from warehouse for consumption, on or after 12:01 a.m. eastern daylight time on August 1, 2025.”

Within 90 days of the EO, the Secretary of Commerce will establish a process to include additional copper derivatives within the scope of this EO.
