In a Federal Register Notice (FRN) published on April 25, 2025, the Department of Commerce is requesting public comments on its Section 232 investigation on the “national security of imports of medium-duty trucks, heavy-duty trucks, and medium- and heavy-duty truck parts, and their derivative products.”

Commerce clarifies that the term “medium duty trucks” refers to trucks with a gross vehicle weight rating between 10,000 and 26,001 pounds, and “heavy duty trucks” means a truck with a gross vehicle weight rating of 26,001 pounds or more.

The truck parts covered under this investigation include engines, engine parts, transmissions, powertrain parts, and electrical components.

The FRN outlines the specific criteria for feedback that the government is seeking for its investigation. The notices provide instructions on how to submit public or “business confidential” comments for these investigations.

Comments for this investigation must be submitted to the federal rulemaking portal at www.regulations.gov by May 16, 2025.
