Beginning February 1, 2024, all Economic Operators Registration and Identification (EORI) Numbers issued in the European Union must be linked to a valid postcode. Initiating transits or export procedures may not be possible if a valid postcode is not linked to the EORI by February 1, 2024.
To ensure compliance with this requirement:
- Operators must check that the data provided to the customs authority when they applied for an EORI Number is accurate and complete. This verification can be done on the European Commission website (EORI number validation europa.eu) if permission was provided to publish this information. Some member states do not publish details about EORI Numbers. In this case, the operator must contact their national competent authority to verify if a valid postcode is linked to their EORI.
- If the postcode is missing or incorrect, the operators must contact their national competent authority to solve the issue (EORI details can only be updated by the Customs authority in the member state where the EORI number was issued).
- For new EORI Numbers, the operators must be sure that when a new registration is complete, it includes the postcode.
