In a Federal Register notice published on June 16, 2017, the Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) announced that the Burmese Sanctions Regulations are being removed from the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR).

The removal of the Burmese Sanction Regulations from the CFR is in response to Executive Order 13742 issued on October 7, 2016 which terminated the emergency “with respect to the actions and policies of the Government of Burma”. The emergency was terminated due to advances by Burma to promote democracy and advancing human rights and freedoms.

The removal of the sanction regulations went into effect on June 16, 2017.
