Mexico Publishes New Labeling Requirements for Textiles

On January 14, 2022, Mexico’s Ministry of Economy published NOM-004-SE-2021. This Official Mexican Standard establishes the commercial information labeling requirements for textile products, clothing, accessories, and household linen. This information must be applied to these goods before entering the country when they are made with textile materials, even when they contain plastics or other materials as well.

The labeling of textile products, clothing, accessories, and household linen comprises of five important items:

  1. Information of the person in charge of the product;
  2. Country of origin;
  3. The composition of fibers;
  4. Care instructions; and
  5. The sizes of garments and dimensions or measurements of household linen and textiles.

Entry into force will be 365 days after publication in the Mexican Diario Oficial.
