ITA Outlines Process for Requesting Automobile Tariffs

Posted by Timothy Miller on 6/27/25 5:00 PM

In a press release published on June 24, 2025, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration (ITA) announced the new procedures for United States Producers to request “additional automobile parts articles to be subject to 25% tariffs under Section 232 tariffs on imported automobile parts.”

The ITA will have two-week submission periods four times a year each January, April, July, and October. The ITA will review each submitted request during this two-week window on a “rolling basis.”

After the request is reviewed, a non-confidential version of a valid request will be posted for two weeks on regulations.gov and open for public comments. The ITA will then make a determination within 60 days of receiving the request.

The first window will open on July 1, 2025.
