In a press release on November 14, 2024, the European Union (EU) Parliament voted to follow the recommendation of the EU Commission and postpone the enforcement of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) by one year.
In addition, the EU Parliament made other amendments to the EUDR such as creating a new category of countries that pose “no risk” on deforestation. “No risk” countries will have less stringent requirements compared to countries in any of the existing low, standard, or high-risk categories.
The postponed EUDR enforcement dates are 30 December 2025 for “large operators and traders”, and 30 June 2026 for “micro- and small enterprises.” This postponement is being granted to ensure that companies have enough time to comply with the new law.
The Council and Parliament will endorse the agreed text to be published in the EU Official Journal.
