Census Changes “Forwarding Agent” Terminology in AESTIR

Posted by Timothy Miller on 2/29/24 2:19 PM

In a Cargo Systems Messaging Service (CSMS) bulletin published on February 27, 2024, the U.S. Census Bureau (Census) announced that the terms “Forwarding Agent” and “FWRD AGT” found in the Automated Export System Trade Interface Requirements (AESTIR) commodity record format, appendices, and AESDirect portal will be replaced with the terms “Authorized Agent” and “AUTH AGT”.

According to the CSMS, the change is being made due to feedback from the trade community and ensures that Census collects the correct party acting as an Authorized Agent in the Electronic Export Information (EEI).

This change will be effective April 1, 2024.
