In a Federal Register Notice (FRN) published on August 18, 2026, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced they would begin to verify the accuracy of the information provided on CBP Form 5106 for new and existing Importers of Record (IORs).

Beginning on September 18, 2026, CBP will review information provided on Form 5106 to ensure that “all information, including the physical addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Employer Identification (EIN), and any Social Security Number (SSN) provided on the CBP Form 5106 are accurate and complete, and that each one belongs directly to the IOR.”

If CBP determines that an IOR, or customs broker acting on behalf of an IOR, has failed to provide accurate or incomplete information, CBP may immediately void the IOR number and potentially take “other enforcement actions, as appropriate.”

When an IOR number is voided, CBP will issue a written notice to the IOR using the most recent email address on file. If applicable, CBP will also copy the customs broker that last filed an entry on behalf of the IOR. The notice will include information on how to request the reestablishment of the IOR number.
