CBP Publishes NPRM for Continuing Education Broker Requirement

On September 10, 2021, in Cargo Systems Messaging Service (CSMS) #49330816, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced the publication of a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) on a mandatory continuing education requirement for licensed brokers. The NPRM would require at least 36 credits of continuing education per triennial period with exceptions for brokers with a voluntary suspension and brokers who haven’t held their license for the entire triennial period.

The Federal Register Notice includes details on what constitutes a continuing education credit, documentation requirements, and accreditation.

CBP is seeking comments on this NPRM, and they are due November 9, 2021.
