CBP Publishes Guidance on Making Payments at Service Ports

In a Cargo Systems Messaging Service (CSMS) bulletin published on October 15, 2024, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) provided guidance on how to submit the initial entry summary payment to a service port instead of the port of entry where the cargo was released.

Previously, CBP was only able to collect the initial entry summary payment at the port of entry where the cargo was released. Importers have the option to submit the initial payment of duties, taxes and fees to any service port, except for the ports of Duluth, MN, and Chalotte Amalie, VI. Additional ports where payments can be processed are also listed in the CSMS.
