In a Cargo Systems Messaging Service bulletin published on February 3, 2025, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced that the President had directed CBP not to apply the additional duties outlined in the Executive Order Imposing Duties to Address the Flow of Illicit Drugs Across our Northern Border.
This Executive Order initially determined that most goods imported from Canada would have been subject to an additional 25 percent ad valorem duty rate, with certain energy resources instead subject to an additional 10 percent ad valorem rate of duty beginning February 4, 2025.
A second Executive Order published on February 3, 2025, stated that this pause will last until March 4, 2025, at 12:01 am Eastern Standard Time.
