In a final rule scheduled for publication on June 23, 2023, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced the mandatory continuing education requirement for licensed brokers. The final rule requires at least 36 credits of continuing education per triennial period with exceptions for brokers with a voluntary suspension and brokers who have not held their license for the entire triennial period.

The Federal Register Notice includes details on what constitutes a continuing education credit, documentation requirements, and accreditation. The number of credits required for the initial triennial period beginning in February 2024 will be reduced by 6 credits for “approximately every six months that elapse between February 1, 2024, and the compliance date…following the publication of this final rule.”
