On December 28, 2022, in Cargo Systems Messaging Service (CSMS) #54509427, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced the termination of Burkina Faso’s eligibility under the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) effective January 1, 2023. The termination is in accordance with President Joseph Biden’s letter of intent noting that “the Government of Burkina Faso has not established, or is not making continual progress toward establishing, the protection of the rule of law and of political pluralism, as stated in the eligibility requirements of section 104 of the AGOA.”
