On August 1, 2018, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced in Cargo Systems Messaging Service (CSMS) #18-000465 changes to various fees, including the Merchandise Processing Fee (MPF), within the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) of 1985.
In the CSMS message, CBP states that the MPF ad valorem rate of 0.3464% will not change, but that the minimum and maximum values for formal entries will change. The new minimum will be $26.22, and the new maximum will increase to $508.70. Additionally, the informal MPF will increase to $2.10.
The changes are scheduled to take effect on October 1, 2018.
