In a Federal Register notice published on June 30, 2017 U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced they will be adopting the final rule previously proposed on September 14, 2016 to modernize the Customs Broker’s Examination.

The final rule will adopt three major changes and the 19 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) will be updated to account for the updated exam changes. The changes include:

  • Change from a written examination to computer automated examination
  • Cost of exam will be increased to $390
  • Dates will be moved from the first Monday of April and October to the fourth Wednesday

CBP will provide a guidance and electronic practice exam on the cbp.gov website to help prepare those taking the next broker exam. These changes go into place on July 31, 2017 and will be in place for the next broker’s exam on Wednesday, October 25, 2017.
