In a Federal Register Notice (FRN) published on September 17, 2025, the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) announced an interim final rule that establishes the process for including additional automobile parts to the Section 232 tariffs.
There will be four annual two-week submission windows opening each January, April, July, and October. During these periods, domestic producers of automobiles or automobile parts can submit inclusion requests to AutoInclusions@trade.gov. The first submission period is scheduled for October 1, 2025.
Once a valid request is received and reviewed by the International Trade Administration (ITA), a non-confidential version of all valid requests will be posted for a 14-day public comment period. The requests will receive a determination within 60 days, indicating whether the request is approved, along with a summary of the rationale for the decision.
This rule went into effect on the day of publication, with a comment period on this interim final rule open until November 3, 2025.
