This year, the World Customs Organization (WCO) commemorates the 72nd anniversary of International Customs Day on January 26th, an occasion dedicated to acknowledging the significant contributions of customs authorities and their personnel globally.
The World Customs Organization (WCO) has endorsed a new Strategic Plan for the 2022-2025 period.
This plan outlines key objectives and activities aimed at enhancing Customs administrations' capabilities in four crucial areas:
- Trade Facilitation: Streamlining legitimate trade processes while maintaining border security.
- Revenue Collection: Ensuring efficient and accurate collection of duties and taxes.
- Protection of Society: Safeguarding society from illicit goods and threats.
- Organizational Development: Improving the overall effectiveness and efficiency of Customs operations.
The Strategic Plan emphasizes the need for the WCO to adapt to the evolving global trade landscape while maintaining its core expertise. It will utilize a set of indicators and concrete activities to monitor progress and ensure the WCO remains a valuable resource for its member countries.
