Union Pacific Railroad Temporarily Suspends Eastbound Service to Chicago: July 16, 2021

Posted by Expeditors on Jul 16, 2021 11:27:00 AM

The Union Pacific Railroad has announced a 7-day rail suspension for Eastbound traffic from the U.S. West Coast ports of Los Angeles, Long Beach, Oakland and Tacoma destined to Global IV terminal in Joliet, Illinois.

The suspension goes into effect at 11:59 p.m. PDT July 18, and applies to all UP’s ocean carrier partners.  This measure is an effort to improve fluidity and reduce the backlog of containers that is currently building at Global IV.

Per UP, reservations already obtained through UP’s Intermodal Container Transfer Facility in Long Beach will be honored, but no new reservations will be provided from the four West Coast ports.

Customers should expect delays to their cargo.
