The Suez Canal remains blocked today as eight tug boats struggle to free one of the world’s largest container ships, the Ever Given, after it ran aground near the Red Sea entrance of the canal on March 23, 2021.
The Ever Given was en route from Shenzhen to Rotterdam when it got stuck in the canal after losing the ability to steer amid high winds and a dust storm.
This is creating bottlenecks on each side of the canal, with ships waiting to go through. It appears there is no damage to the container ship or its cargo.
Customers should expect delays to their cargo.
