A sixth round of talks between German union ver.di, which represents 12,000 port workers, and the Central Association of German Seaport Companies (ZDS) ended Wednesday with no deal, setting the stage for a 48-hour strike starting Thursday.
Container terminals in Hamburg, Bremerhaven, and Wilhelmshaven will shut down for 48 hours from 6am July 14 until 6am July 16.
The strike will potentially aggravate the port congestion at Hamburg’s container terminals where yard density already stands at an unproductive level of 90%.
