The National Airport Workers Alliance (NAWA) in South Korea has announced plans to initiate strike actions from September 19 through October 9, 2025. The NAWA represents approximately 15,000 employees across 15 airports, including major hubs such as Incheon and Gimpo International Airport.

September 18th, 2025
The National Airport Workers Alliance has confirmed that the planned strike will be limited to a single day: Friday, September 19. Based on current airline reporting, minimal operational disruption is expected across impacted carriers:
  • Korean Airlines: No operational impact anticipated. Korean Airlines will not activate their Business Continuity Plan, as they expect negligible disruption.
  • AirZeta / Asiana Airlines: Freighter operations are expected to proceed without impact. However, passenger flight schedules may experience delays.
  • Cathay Pacific / China Airlines / EVA Air: Freighter services are not expected to be affected. Passenger flights will likely face potential delays.
We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as needed.

The strike coincides with the Chuseok holiday period (September 28-October 1), which is historically associated with elevated passenger volumes and typical delays of 3–8 hours under normal conditions. While South Korean law mandates that essential airport functions remain operational, significant disruptions are still anticipated, particularly in the following areas:
  • Runway and Terminal Maintenance
  • Firefighting Services
  • Electrical Operations
Expected Impacts on Air Cargo Operations:
  • Potential rerouting of cargo to avoid escalating delays
  • Longer transit time from rerouting cargo
  • Increased demand and pricing pressure across alternative routes and carriers
  • Holiday congestion during Chuseok will amplify operational challenges

Extended processing times, congestion, and schedule disruptions are likely throughout the strike period.

Stakeholders are advised to monitor developments closely and consider proactive adjustments to routing and scheduling to mitigate potential service impacts.
