Potential Strike with CBSA

Members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) working for the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) have voted overwhelmingly, with 96% in favor of taking job action. This strong mandate signifies their readiness to strike if a fair contract cannot be negotiated.

A potential strike by CBSA workers could significantly disrupt the flow of goods, services, and people across Canadian borders, particularly with the busy summer season approaching. Negotiations between PSAC and the government have been ongoing for more than two years, with key issues such as wages, work flexibility, and retirement benefits remaining unresolved.

The union emphasizes the urgency of reaching an agreement before the critical summer travel period. Both parties are scheduled to resume negotiations with the help of a mediator in early June. The outcome of a Public Interest Commission report, expected before the mediation sessions, will determine when PSAC-CIU can legally strike.
