As of October 17, 2025, the lashers and employers at the Port of Rotterdam have reached a new collective labor agreement following a five-day strike.

The FNV Havens union and the lashing companies agreed on wage increases through 2028, in addition to automatic price compensation.

This agreement ends the strike that had disrupted container operations and caused significant vessel backlogs at Europe’s largest port.

Lashers at the port of Rotterdam initiated a 48-hour strike on Wednesday afternoon, which is now set to continue indefinitely following failed negotiations between the union FNV Havens and employers Matrans and International Lashing Services.

All major terminals, including APM Maasvlakte II, Hutchison Ports Delta II, ECT Delta, and Rotterdam World Gateway (RWG), have suspended container handling, resulting in widespread vessel delays.

The strike has created a backlog of container ships waiting to be loaded/offloaded at Europe’s largest port.
