Mexico Closes Mexico City Airport to Cargo Aircrafts Only (CAO)

On February 2, 2023, in the Diario Oficial, the Mexican government announced a mandate to ban Cargo Aircraft Only (CAO) flights from the old Mexico City Airport (MEX).

This mandate is an effort to resolve congestion at MEX by diverting CAO flights to the new Felipe Angeles International Airport (NLU). It is effective July 5, 2023.

Expeditors MEX is prepared to maintain operational continuity for our customers when airlines begin flying to NLU. However, we understand many airlines and customs brokers are facing different challenges and are still in the process of setting up their operations in the new airport. Our local teams are monitoring the situation and working closely with airlines and customs brokers.

Contact your local Expeditors representative for more information and operational assistance.
