The ILWU strike that began yesterday, July 18th, was deemed illegal by the Minister of Labor due to the lack of a 72-hour strike notice from the International Longshore and Warehouse Union Canada.

The minister shared a decision by the Canada Industrial Relations Board ordering ILWU Canada to cease and desist strike action until the 72-hour notice requirement is met.

The longshoremen are scheduled to resume work today.

The union has since issued a 72-hour strike notice to the BC Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA) and will be in a legal position to return to the picket lines as of 08:00 PDT on Saturday, July 22.
