White House Announces Progress on Section 301 Tariffs

On May 29, 2018, the White House announced an update on the progress of the Section 301 tariffs, which included actions the U.S. will take.

The White House announced the following actions, including, but not limited to:

  • The U.S. will announce investment restrictions and export controls for Chinese persons and entities by June 30, 2018; and
  • The U.S. will impose a 25% tariff on $50 billion of commodities imported from China, and a list of those commodities will be announced by June 15, 2018.

Additionally, the White House stated that, “the United States will request that China remove all of its many trade barriers, including non-monetary trade barriers.” The notice also indicated that, “discussions with China will continue on these topics.”
