In an Executive Order (EO) published on August 6,2025, President Trump announced an additional 25% tariff on goods from India in “response to its continued purchase of Russian Federation oil.”
This tariff would be in addition to the 25% reciprocal tariff rate that is set to apply to India on August 7, 2025. Products that are subject to Section 232 tariffs or exempt from reciprocal tariffs will not be subject to this additional rate.
This additional tariff will go into effect on August 27, 2025.
There will be an in-transit exemption for products are loading onto a vessel and in transit on the final mode of transportation to the United States before August 27, 2025, and are “entered for consumption, or withdrawn from warehouse for consumption, before 12:01 a.m. eastern daylight time on September 17, 2025.”
