On December 18, 2020, the World Customs Organization (WCO) announced the publication of the 2020 Compendium of Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) Programmes. This compendium provides “a concise and structured overview of existing AEO programmes around the world and of Mutual Recognition Arrangements/Agreements (MRAs) signed between Customs administrations.”
The compendium contains details on the programmes, including accreditation criteria, procedures, benefits, and associated programmes. According to the WCO notice, the 2020 edition includes:
- “97 operational AEO programmes and 20 AEO programmes under development.
- 33 operational Customs Compliance programmes and 4Customs Compliance programmes due to be launched.
- 87 bi-lateral and 4plurilateral/regional MRAs concluded and 78 MRAs under negotiation.”
In comparison to the statistics stated in the 2019 publication, an additional 14 AEO programmes have been implemented and 13 additional MRAs have been signed.
