USTR to Conduct Out-of-Cycle Review of Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda for AGOA Eligibility

In a Federal Register notice published on June 20, 2017 the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) announced they would be conducting an out-of-cycle review of the Republic of Rwanda, United Republic of Tanzania, and Republic of Uganda. This review in association with the Trade Policy Staff Committee (TPSC) on their respective eligibility to receive African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) benefits.

The out-of-cycle review was initiated after the Secondary Materials and Recycled Textiles Association (SMART) sent a petition to USTR requesting the review. According to the notice, “The Subcommittee will consider the written comments, written testimony, and oral testimony in developing recommendations for the President as to whether the Republic of Rwanda, United Republic of Tanzania, and Republic of Uganda are meeting the AGOA eligibility criteria.”

Written comments must be submitted by July 13, 2017. A public hearing will also be held on July 13, 2017.
