USTR Requests Comments on Continued Maritime Section 301 Suspension

Posted by Timothy Miller on 10/27/26, 5:00 PM

In a Federal Register Notice (FRN) published on October 26, 2026, the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) announced that is requesting public comments on a proposal to continue the suspension of certain Section 301 fees on maritime transport services.

The Section 301 action includes fees that would apply to certain Chinese-made, owned, or operated vessels entering U.S. ports, as well as certain crane and chassis parts. These measures were suspended for one year beginning November 10, 2025, as part of a trade agreement between the U.S. and China.

USTR is proposing to suspend this action for an addition two months, through January 9, 2027, to “allow for further negotiation with China regarding the acts, policies, and practices at issue in this investigation.”

Comments will be accepted until October 30, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. Easter Time at https://comments.ustr.gov/s/
