On April 12, 2018, the office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) announced new eligibility reviews of India, Indonesia, and Kazakhstan for the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP).

The USTR’s concerns, which initiated the reviews for each country, are:

  • India – compliance with the GSP market access criterion and petitions from the U.S. dairy industry and medical device industry;
  • Indonesia – compliance with the GSP market access criterion and services and investment criterion;
  • Kazakhstan – a petition from the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations regarding worker rights.

A public hearing and comment period for the reviews will be announced in an upcoming Federal Register notice.
