On August 20, 2017 the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) released a trilateral statement between the U.S., Mexico, and Canada following the conclusion of the first round of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) renegotiations held August 16-20, 2017 in Washington, D.C.

The representatives from each country discussed over two dozen diverse areas during the five day meeting. According to the trilateral statement, “The scope and volume of proposals during the first round of the negotiation reflects a commitment from all three countries to an ambitious outcome and reaffirms the importance of updating the rules governing the world’s largest free trade area.”

The second round of negotiations will be held September 1-5, 2017 in Mexico, followed by round three to be held in late September in Canada. Additional rounds are planned throughout the year.
