US Announces New Tariff Actions Against Russia

On February 24, 2023, US President Joseph Biden announced several tariff actions against Russia for its war against Ukraine.

  • Aluminum products and derivative aluminum products from Russia will be subject to a 200% ad valorem tariff effective March 10, 2023.
  • Any aluminum articles “where any amount of primary aluminum used in the manufacture of the aluminum articles is smelted in Russia, or the aluminum articles are cast in Russia, and derivative aluminum articles where any amount of primary aluminum used in the manufacture of the derivative is smelted in Russia, or the derivative aluminum articles are cast in Russia” will be subject to a 200% ad valorem tariff effective April 10, 2023.
  • The affected products will not be eligible for any General Approved Exclusions as of the aforementioned effective dates.
  • The column 2 duty rates on certain additional Russian products will increase from 35% ad valorem to 70% ad valorem effective April 1, 2023.
