UK to Replace CHIEF Customs System

The current United Kingdom (UK) Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight (CHIEF) system will be replaced with the Customs Declaration (CDS) system in two phases according to the timeline indicated by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) department. The CHIEF system is 25 years old, and it will be retired:

  • 30th September 2022 for import submissions; and
  • 31st March 2023 for export submissions.
