U.S. President Removes Turkey from GSP List of Developing Countries and Reduces Section 232 Tariffs on Turkish Steel

On May 16, 2019, U.S. President Trump issued a Presidential Proclamation announcing the removal of Turkey from the list of developing countries for the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP).

In a separate Presidential Proclamation, the President reduced the Section 232 duty rates on importations of steel with an origin from Turkey from 50% to 25%.

The effective date of the removal of Turkey from GSP is May 17, 2019, while the reduction in duty rate for steel imports has an effective date of May 21, 2019.
